First-year courses

This course is meant for everyone who starts court dancing for the first time. You will learn a number of dances in every style we do while we focus a lot on learning the basic steps and techniques properly. We offer one course in English and one in Dutch.

Waiting list? We don't usually have a waiting list, but every course needs to retain a reasonable ratio between dancers in the gentleman and lady roles. If you really want to dance as a lady but we only have open slots for gents, then you may be placed on a waiting list after all. This can also happen if a course is completely full to begin with. We will always discuss all possibilities with you before placing you on a waiting list. If you are on the waiting list, you will receive an invitation to join us as soon as a spot opens up. You will receive this invitation on the email address you left with us at the time.

Second-year courses

These courses pick up where the previous ones left of as you build on the skills you learned in the previous year. You have mastered the basic steps by now and are ready for a bunch of new dances. Progression to this second-year course is, in principal, automatic unless you have simply missed too much or choose to repeat the first year. We offer one course in English and one in Dutch.

Advanced class

After completing the second-year course, you ay be invited to join the advanced class.* In it, you will learn the longer and tougher dances as well as do some detail and finishing work for the things you've learned in the first two courses. Currently, we only offer this course in Dutch.

* This year you still have to have a certain level in your basic skills in order to be invited to the advanced course. We expect to be able to make progression to a "third-year course" atomatisc in the course year of '27/'28, so that every student who wishes to can learn our complete repertoire. If that is indeed possible, we will also start a (very) advanced course for those who seek a greater challenge, in which the tempo and level of detail will be much higher.

T&T - Theatre and Technique course (or single classes)

The T&T course is accessible for everyone from year two and up. In these extra classes, you will focus on the (higher) techniques and more theatrical aspects of court dancing as well as its history. As such, you will not be learning the choreographies themselves, but rather how to give a truly outstanding performance. We will train these skills mainly through various exercises and, to a lesser extent, by dancing familiar and unfamiliar choreographies. The programme is the same as last year, but you are certainly welcome to take the course again if you wish; it could surely be useful. You can also purchase separate classes you like the topic of.

This is an additional course that you register for on top of your regular classes. You cannot take it as a stand-alone course. First-years cannot enroll in this course.

RSC

Are you not yet a member with us but you do have an RSC card? Then you can book a short 7- or 8-week course using the RSC app. Do it to enjoy a new experience or treat it as a trial period to see if maybe LPR will be your new dance association of choice. We teach the same mini course for every block and by the end of one, you can join in that block's showcase if you want. Registrations close after the second class for every block.

What do you need?

For first-years and RSC courses

You don't need any fancy clothes or special shoes to start court dancing, nor do you need a partner or any prior experience. You don't even need a Radboud Sports and Culture card or RU Fit card to join us. You get to dance with different partners every time and all the dances are taught from start to finish. We don't wear our costumes during classes: we reserve those for demonstrations and workshops. While specific dance shoes are not mandatory for theses courses, they sure are useful! Check the flyer below for details. If you are a part of the RSC course, please follow the RSC rules about shoes in the multi/dance rooms with wooden floors.

For the second-year, advanced and T&T courses

For these courses, decent court dancing shoes are mandatory. They don't need to be anything special or expensive, but they do need to meet certain standards. Read the flyer below to learn what those are.
If you only have the budget or closet space for a single pair, pelase make sure they are fit for performances. The demands are a lot less strict during dance class, but if you only get a pair of training shoes, you risk not being allowed to come along on performances.

PLEASE NOTE: if your class is taught in D0.09, you are only allowed to dance in socks or on bare feet; no shoes allowed. We will enforce this rule very strictly!
