Dance classes

Every Wednesday evening, court dancing association Les Précieuses Ridicules come together to study different court dansces, even now in the 21st century. A new course round starts every September. If you aren’t quite convinced yet that court dancing could be your thing, go ahead and schedule a free trial lesson. We’re sure you’ll love it!

What do you need for court dancing?

Nothing special, really. You don’t need any particular shoes or clothes, as long as you feel you can dance in them. You don’t even need a dance partner or any previous experience! A RU sports card isn’t required either. We ask a different partner for each dance and you’ll be tought all choreographies from start to finish. And you don’t have to bother with costumes: those only come out when we give demo’s and workshops.

Partners – leads en follows

Court dancing is a partner dance sport, similar to ballroom dancing in that regard. At LPR, you get to chose for yourself whether you want to dance as a lead or a follow. During our classes we label these roles gentlemen and ladies respectively, to enhance the historical experience our sport brings. Who dances what part is irrelevant: it’s really only meant as a technical term.

Styles of dance

Since our inception, we have focused on the rococo and biedermeier styles of dance, those regency has been on the rise over the past couple years. On occasion we will throw in a renaissance style dance or use a balfolk dance as a warming-up. Are you curious about the different types of dance and the costumes that come with them?
